FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Clear answers to common questions about seed options, contracts, agronomy, delivery, and partnership with PURIS.
PROGRAM & CONTRACTS
What are non-GMO crop contracts?
Non-GMO crop contracts are forward agreements that define pricing, delivery windows, and quality specifications before planting. PURIS offers structured production contracts for yellow field peas and select soybean programs.
What seed does PURIS offer?
We offer proprietary non-GMO yellow field peas, non-GMO soybeans, and non-GMO corn hybrids. Availability varies by region.
What is a Full Production Contract?
A Full Production Contract means PURIS commits to purchasing 100% of your contracted pea yield (and soybean yield in eligible regions) under defined pricing and quality specifications established before planting.
How are prices set?
Pricing is locked in before planting through a forward contract. Terms, delivery windows, and quality specifications are defined before production.
What happens if weather affects my yield?
Eligible contracts include Act-of-God protection for verified production shortfalls caused by uncontrollable events such as drought, hail, or flooding.
What is the delivery and payment period?
Standard contracts operate on Buyer’s Call. Delivery is completed before the next crop year. For example, the July 2025 harvest would be delivered by June 30, 2026. Payment is net 30 days from delivery per load.
Can I grow PURIS crops on a small farm?
Yes. Whether you farm 50 acres or 5,000, our program is structured to support operations of varying sizes.
SEED & AGRONOMY
Do I need special equipment?
No. PURIS crops integrate into most standard row-crop equipment and existing rotations. Equipment must be cleaned to maintain identity preservation and food-grade standards.
Does PURIS allow desiccation on peas?
No. Desiccants are not permitted on yellow field peas. PURIS supports natural dry-down and provides harvest timing guidance.
What are your weed prevention practices?
Organic systems rely on rotary hoe and tine weeder passes until canopy closure, typically at 6–8 inches in height. Conventional systems may utilize approved herbicides; glyphosate is restricted on peas during the growing cycle.
How does PURIS schedule planting and harvest?
Planting timing is determined based on regional conditions to establish strong stands and maximize yield potential. Depending on geography, planting may range from January through late May. Harvest typically occurs 95–110 days after planting, depending on heat unit accumulation. Growers provide a harvest sample for approval before processing.
ORGANIC & REGENERATIVE AGRICULTURE
Can I grow PURIS crops organically?
Yes. We offer both organic and conventional programs, with support tailored to organic systems.
Will PURIS help me transition to organic farming?
Yes. We work with growers across the U.S. and can provide guidance based on proven transition pathways and peer experience.
What is regenerative agriculture?
At PURIS, regenerative agriculture focuses on rebuilding soil health, protecting water resources, and enhancing biodiversity. Crops like yellow field peas and non-GMO soybeans naturally fix nitrogen, reducing reliance on synthetic fertilizers and supporting long-term soil productivity.
